Manual Lymphatic Drainage – Freedom Massage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, or MLD, is a highly specialized and gentle modality developed to encourage the natural return of lymphatic fluid. Utilizing a rhythmic approach, MLD is exceptionally beneficial for patients navigating oncology care or surgical recovery. It offers the potential to reduce post-surgical discomfort and edema while providing a soothing effect on the nervous system. MLD can assist the recovery process, helping your body heal faster and helping you return to feeling like yourself sooner.

Freedom Massage MLD sessions are thoughtfully tailored for individuals managing diverse medical conditions, including but not restricted to:

  • Post-trauma (injury) and Post-surgery recovery
  • Lymphedema
  • Oncology
  • Autoimmune disorders
  • Neurological, migraines and headaches
  • Lyme disease

Note: MLD is not for everyone. There are contraindications to receiving Manual Lymph Drainage therapy. You will be asked to provide medical information prior to your first session to make sure the therapy is appropriate for you.

Some examples of absolute contraindications include:

  • Acute cellulitis (skin infections)
  • Acute and untreated blood clots or DVTs
  • Fever or general sickness
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Cardiac Arrhythmia
  • Pacemakers
  • Untreated Congestive Heart Failure

This list of contraindications is not exhaustive. If you have any concerns about being a candidate for these treatments, check in with your doctor. Because of the nature of this modality, there may be more detailed conversations about your medical history and symptoms during your intake. Your therapist will work with you to determine the safest treatment each session.
