Frequently Asked Questions, and Answer from Diane, The Owner:
I know massage feels nice, but what else is it really good for?
What isn’t massage good for should be the question! Massage is good for EVERYTHING. It helps EVERY SYSTEM, ORGAN, MUSCLE in your body, and calms your mind. Touch overrides thought. You only get one body to last this lifetime. If your overly stressed or in discomfort, your body’s resource’s are not as readily available to you to help you enjoy life to the fullest. Massage does everything from helping push blood from your head to your toes to allowing your mind time to quiet itself. As a small business owner, I have had some of my greatest business revelations on the massage table — because my mind was quiet and reason could gently creep in. Nothing in all the land feels better then massage. Since ancient times touch has been a remedy to help the body heal itself. — Diane, Owner
Q: Does getting a massage hurt?
Massage can hurt — BUT, at Freedom Massage we welcome and encourage feedback throughout your session. Therefore if something is uncomfortable, we can lighten up our pressure or adjust our technique. Massage is a team effort between the giver and receiver. To us, it is most important that you are relaxed. If your mind and body can reach a state of calm it will be the most powerful way to rid your body of pain. — Diane, Owner
Q: How often should I get a massage?
The answer for the average person would be as often as you can afford. I would say every week if you could. In the 90’s when I began my massage career people did so without blinking an eye. Times and the economy have changed. People are busier. But, my answer remains the same as often as possible. Every day if you could. I would not suggest a Deep Tissue as often. It is a great way to spend your money. The benefits are investing in a body that MUST LAST A LIFETIME. I often hear of people waiting too long to address discomfort and needing surgery as a consequence. That results is pain, loss of work, loss of time, lots of trips to the doctor, and lots of expensive medical bills. None of that feels good! By contrast, massage DOES feel good, and is a comparatively inexpensive preventive health care tool. Massage can be a effective part of a journey into a healthier lifestyle. See our benefits page for more information.
Q: Do I have to get naked?
We will work with you however you are most comfortable. We understand how vulnerable clients are in our massage rooms and we treat everyone’s situation with care and integrity. You may stay partially or even fully clothed. We are better able to use gliding strokes following the muscle fibers and bringing deep relief to your body without clothing in between you and our hands. You are covered by a sheet at all times and only the areas we are working on are exposed. You will climb on the massage table in between sheets as if going to bed. No areas are exposed that would cause anyone discomfort. Freedom Massage therapists will ask a lot of questions to make sure you are comfortable. I had a client who felt most comfortable leaving her pants on for two years. It did not bother me and I was still happy she came to see me.
Q: What happens if I am unable to make my scheduled appointment?
